Our Story

West Side Missionary Baptist Church is a Bible-based church where all are welcome and where Jesus Christ is the center attraction.

We have proudly been part of the West Oakland community for over 80 years, and we strive to take our mission outside the four walls of our church to help those in need. We do this through community organizing on issues like No Coal in Oakland, through our Safe Car Park program as we do our part to help solve the homeless epidemic in Oakland, and by supporting affordable housing across our city.

Wherever you are on your journey, you are welcome here. Worship with us, serve alongside us, and be part of what God is doing in West Oakland.

Meet Our Pastor

Rev. Ken Chambers, Ph.D. is an Oakland native, community leader, activist, and proud Pastor of West Side M.B.C. for over 40 years.
He is the Founding President of the Interfaith Council of Alameda County, and BEDROC (Building Equity, Discipline, and Respect for our Communities), a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Our Programs

In partnership with the Interfaith Council of Alameda County, the Safe Car Park Program is designed to provide safe overnight parking for individuals and families who are living out of their cars.
